Apple Coconut Bars

2 cups all-purpose flour, un-sifted   4 cups thinly sliced apples
1 tsp. salt    2 tsp. FASWEET
1/2 cup shortening    1/4 cup water
4 Tbs. water    1 tsp. cinnamon
4 Tbs. milk    2 Tbs. margarine

Stir flour and salt together.  Cut in shortening with pastry blender.  Combine water and milk; gradually add to flour mixture stirring with a fork.  Turn dough out on a lightly floured cloth or board.  Roll into a rectangle about 1/8 inches thick.  Place pastry in a jelly roll pan or on a large cookie sheet (about 15 x 12).  Put apple slices in bowl.  Combine FASWEET and water; pour over apples and stir thoroughly.  Spread apple slices evenly over pastry.  Sprinkle cinnamon over all and dot with margarine.  Bake at 4250 for 25 minutes.  Remove from oven and add topping.

Topping

4 tsp. FASWEET   2 cups grated coconut
1/2 cup evaporated milk  

Combine FASWEET and milk; add coconut and mix well.  Spread evenly over apples.  Reduce heat to 3500, return bars to oven and bake 20 minutes longer.  Cool slightly.  Cut bars about 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches long.  Makes 80 bars.
